ABOUT Spicy Tofu Chana Chili RECIPE

Just by its name,I can almost hear all the tofu haters out there scoffing but trust me on this.Spicy Tofu Chana Chili is the best vegan,protein rich,flavorful and spicy chili one will ever eat.All it needs is a small portion of steamed couscous and here you have a complete hearty meal, might be for the bright summers or the cozy winters.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 250 gm : Firm Tofu cubed
  2. 3 tbsp : All purpose flour
  3. 2 tbsp : Corn starch
  4. 1 tsp : Ginger Garlic paste
  5. 1 tbsp : Red chilli sauce
  6. 1/2 tsp : Crushed Pepper corns
  7. Salt to taste
  8. 1 can : Chickpeas drained and rinsed
  9. 1/2 cup : Onion cubed
  10. 1 tbsp : Extra virgin Olive oil
  11. 1/2 cup : Red bell pepper cubed
  12. 1/2 cup : Yellow bell pepper cubed
  13. 1 tbsp : Ginger finely chopped
  14. 1 tbsp : Garlic minced
  15. 4 no : Green chillies chopped
  16. 2 tbsp : Tomato ketchup
  17. 2 tsp : Soy sauce
  18. 1 tsp : Vinegar
  19. 1 tbsp : Chiili sauce
  20. 1/4 tsp : Ajinomoto (optional)
  21. Salt to taste
  22. 1 tsp : Sugar
  23. 1/4 cup : water
  24. 2 tsp : Corn starch
  25. 1/2 tsp : Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. To begin with , cube the tofu into bite sized pieces. Place them on a paper towel until needed.
  2. To a small bowl add the all purpose flour, corn starch,ginger garlic paste, red chilli sauce and crushed pepper corns.
  3. Adding water little at a time make them into smooth and runny batter.
  4. Add the cubed tofu pieces and gently fold to coat the tofu with batter.
  5. Start heating up oil in a pan for frying the battered tofu.
  6. Once oil turns oil add the tofu pieces and fry until done on all sides.Drain them on a paper towel and set ready.
  7. Heat a sauce pan with a tablespoon of olive oil.Add the minced ginger and garlic. Saute for a minute or two.
  8. Next add the chopped green chillies and cubed onion.
  9. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and let them sweat a bit. Stir in the cubed peppers and cook for a minute or two until slightly done.
  10. Now add the chilli sauce, soy sauce, vinegar,ketchup and salt.Mix them well and add the water as well.
  11. Bring this to a gentle simmer.Prepare a slurry of corn starch and a couple of spoons of water.
  12. Stir in the slurry and cook until slightly thick.Lastly add the sugar,ajinomoto(if using) and give it a good mix.
  13. Now add the fried tofu and chick peas.
  14. Give them all a good mix until the tofu and chana are well coated with the prepared chili.
  15. Simmer for couple of minutes.Garnish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds,chopped cilantro, green chillies and Serve it hot with steamed couscous.
  16. Spicy ,flavorful,protein rich tofu chili looks appetizing. Doesn't it ? Make and gorge on the guilt free pleasures.
