Mamidikaya pappu - Kacchi Kairi Tur Daal

Ingredients to make Mamidikaya pappu - Kacchi Kairi Tur Daal

  • 1 cup Tuvar dal
  • 1 big kacchi kairi (use langda or totapuri variety)
  • 3 to 4 green chillies
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 big onion cut into cubes
  • Oil for tadka 2 tbsp
  • Rai and jeera 1/2 tsp each
  • curry leaves
  • Coriander for garnish

How to make Mamidikaya pappu - Kacchi Kairi Tur Daal

  1. Wash tuvar dal. Cut kacchi kairi into cubes. Add to washed dal.
  2. Add green chillies and onion and boil till 5 whistles.
  3. Let it cool. Add salt to taste.
  4. In other kadhai add oil.
  5. Once hot, add rai and jeera, turmeric and curry leaves and add it to dal.
  6. Let it boil for another 5 mins with little water added to it.
  7. Garnish with coriander

My Tip:

serve hot with steamed rice or roti.

kairi does not make it too sour? I am not sure about the taste..can I use one small one?
