ABOUT Sambar RECIPE

It is a lentil-based vegetable stew made with tamarind popular in South Indian. It is served with steamed rice, idli & dosa. Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 Cups Toor Dal
  2. 4 cup water- to cook dal + 2 cup extra to add later
  3. 3 Dry Red Chillies or (to taste)
  4. 2 tbsp Sambar powder
  5. 1 tbsp tamarind soaked in 1/2 cup water
  6. small Onion 5-6
  7. Tomatoes 2-3 Chopped
  8. 2 cups Mix vegetables (lady finger/bottle gourd /carrot )or any veg one like
  9. 10-12 curry leaves
  10. Mustard seeds 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Pressure Cook Toor dal with salt and water and keep aside, once pressure cools down.Heat a deep pan adding oil then add sliced Onion once it turned pink in color add tomatoes & sambar masala & mixed vegetables cook properly .
  2. Once pressure cools down add cooked dal & tamarind in a pan which vegetables are cooked mixed properly & 2 more cups of water & boil so veggies become more tender.check seasoning & turn off heat .
  3. Prepare Tempering heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds once it crackled add Dry chillies & curry leaves .Pour tempering on prepared sambar.
