It is a light, simple, flavorful fish curry.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rohu fish pieces 500gm
  2. Potato 2 cut in long big slices
  3. Onion 1 sliced
  4. Tomato 1 chopped
  5. Ginger 1"chopped
  6. Garlic 4-5pods
  7. Panch phoron 1 tsp
  8. Cinnamon 1"
  9. Green cardamom 2
  10. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  11. Red chilli powder 1tsp
  12. Salt as per taste
  13. Mustard oil 4tbsp
  14. Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Marinate fish pieces with salt and turmeric powder for 10mins.
  2. Cut the potatoes in long slices.
  3. Make a paste by grinding ginger, garlic, half of sliced onions, cinnamon, cardamom and little water.
  4. Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the fish pieces.
  5. Fry the potatoes too.
  6. Heat oil in the same pan and add panch phoron.
  7. When splutter, add the remaining sliced onions.
  8. When onion becomes light pink, add the masala paste and mix.
  9. Cook till oil separates and then add the tomatoes and all the spice powders.
  10. Cook few more minutes till everything cooked well and tomatoes becomes mushy.
  11. Add the fried potatoes and mix.
  12. Add 1-1/2cups water and when boil comes add the fish pieces and cook covered till gravy thickens.
  13. Finally garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  14. Serve hot with steamed rice.
  15. Note- Panch phoron is a mixture of Cumin, Brown Mustard, Fenugreek, Nigella and Fennel seeds.
