Have you ever tried sweetmeat - a non veg dessert. Yes , you can prepare a sweet dish using mutton or chicken. Gosht halwa is a lost recipe and will become a history soon. It is a part mughlai cuisine which was prepared by slow cooking mutton for hours. Today i am sharing the same recipe to bring it back in limelight. It is best kids recipe since it is non spicy and can be eaten by toddlers too.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 250 gram mutton
  2. 1 liter milk
  3. 1 cup ghee
  4. 1 betel leaf
  5. 2-3 cardamom
  6. Few Saffron strands soaked in warm milk
  7. 1 tsp rose water
  8. 1 cup sugar or as required
  9. 1 cup chopped nuts
  10. 7-8 raisins
  11. Few drops of edible attar (essence)
  12. 1 tsp cashewnut powder
  13. 1 tsp khoya
  14. 1 tsp poppy seeds
  15. Silver verk
  16. Fresh colourful edible flowers

Instructions

  1. Wash meat properly twice or thrice .Take a large pan and add milk, betel leaf and bring it to boil. Add the washed meat and slow cook meat till the it becomes soft and tender. It will help to remove meaty smell.
  2. Remove betel leaf and cardamom.With a fork remove flesh from the bones or If you are using boneless meat directly pass it through a mixer and mince twice or thrice till it becomes really smooth.
  3. In another pan add ghee and roast the chopped nuts and raisins. Remove it in a bowl when it turns brown.
  4. In the same ghee add poppy seeds and stirr for a minute.Then add minced meat and let it cook for some time till the ghee seperates.
  5. Add cashewnut powder, khoya, saffron soaked in warm milk, sugar , and let it cook for 8 minutes.
  6. Now add rose water and chopped nuts.
  7. For plating take the halwa in a desired mould and remove on a plate. Decorate with silver verk, colourful edible flowers and chopped nuts.
  8. In a cotton ball add some essence and keep it on the halwa . cover it for 5 minutes so all the aroma will get absorbed. You will see a royal presentation, royal taste and royal fragrance while eating this delicacy that belongs to the royal families.
