ABOUT Spicy Onion Uttapam RECIPE

A must in the menu of all Udupi restaurants.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. For the Uttapam batter:
  2. 1 cup of rice (soaked overnight )
  3. 1/2 cup of urad dal (soaked overnight )
  4. 1 tsp of methi dana
  5. Salt as per taste
  6. 1/4 cup of finely chopped Onion
  7. Green chillies chopped as per taste
  8. Chopped Coriander 1/2 bunch
  9. Red Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
  10. Oil to cook

Instructions

  1. Soak overnight 1 cup of rice and 1/2 cup of urad dal. Drain and grind to a fine paste with 1 tsp of methi dana. Let it ferment for 4 to 5 hours.
  2. In a non stick pan pour a ladle of the fermented batter and spread it a little.
  3. Now sprinkle evenly, all the chopped vegetables and spices as per taste.
  4. Put a little oil on the sides.
  5. Once it turns golden from the bottom flip it over and cook from the other side till golden.
  6. Serve hot with chutney.
