ABOUT Akki Roti RECIPE

Akki Roti is an extremely popular breakfast option across South India, especially in Karnataka. Though it is mainly consumed during Breakfast, but it can be eaten in Diner as well or as a Evening Snack as well. Akki means Rice in Karnataka and Rice Flour is the main ingredient to prepare this. Various vegetables can be added in it.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 1/2 cup of Rice Flour
  2. 1 large Onion or 2 medium sized Onions
  3. 1 medium size carrot
  4. 2 tablespoon of grated Coconut
  5. 5 to 6 Beans
  6. 2 tablespoon of chopped Curry Leaves
  7. 1 tablespoon of chopped Coriander Leaves
  8. 1 tablespoon of chopped Coriander Leaves
  9. 1 teaspoon of Mustard Seed
  10. Salt as per taste
  11. Water as needed

Instructions

  1. First, take a bowl and add rice flour and salt in it.
  2. Chop the onion finely and keep it aside.
  3. Blanch the carrot and beans together in warm water for 5 minutes.
  4. Cut the carrot and beans in very small pieces.
  5. In a pan, add 1 teaspoon of white oil and add Mustard seed in it.
  6. Once the crackling sound started to come, add curry leaves in it and stir fry it for 1 minute in medium flame.
  7. Now add the grated coconut, curry leaves, mustard seeds, small carrot pieces, beans and chopped onion pieces with the rice flour.
  8. Mix it properly and add water in a small amount to knead it.
  9. Make a ball of dense dough. Make 6 small equal balls.
  10. On a flat pan or a tawa and add some white oil in it. Heat on a medium flame.
  11. Add one dough ball in it and carefully press it from the top to make it flatten evenly.
  12. Shallow fry it for 2 minutes, and then flips it on the other side and again fry it for another 2 minutes.
  13. When the crust starts to change its color to golden brown, take it away from the pan and repeat the frying process for the other dough balls.
  14. Finally serve it with Coconut Chutney or Mint Chutney or Peanut Onion Chutney.
