This Andhra curry made with spinach and toor dal.

Palakura podi pappu

Ingredients to make Palakura podi pappu

  • spinach 250 gms
  • Toor dal 1/2 cup
  • onion 1, finely chopped
  • garlic cloves 3 to 4, finely chopped
  • Red chillies 3 to 4
  • oil 2 tablespoon
  • salt as per taste
  • cumin seeds 1/2 tsp

How to make Palakura podi pappu

  1. Wash and finely chop spinach and keep aside.
  2. Cook toor dal with half a cup of water and make sure water should be in 1:1 ratio and keep observing it should be cooked and not mushy like what we cook for plain dal.
  3. Heat a wok and add oil, jeera, red chillies and garlic cloves.
  4. Let it splutter, add chopped onion and stir for a while.
  5. Add spinach, turmeric and stir well. Add salt and stir well for a few minutes.
  6. When spinach gets cooked, add toor dal and stir well.
  7. After five minutes add red chilli powder and stir well. When the dal gets cooked, add garam masala and stir for a few minutes. Turn off the flame.
  8. Serve this sookhi palak dal with hot steamed rice or rotis.
