Kumbakonam Kadappa

Ingredients to make Kumbakonam Kadappa

  • Moong dal -1/4 Cup
  • Potato - 2
  • Onion -1 Big, finely sliced
  • Slit green chillies - 3
  • Coriander leaves -1 tbspn (finely chopped)
  • Lemon juice -1 tspn
  • Salt -to taste
  • To temper :
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
  • Bay leaf -1
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 inch stick
  • Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
  • To Grind :
  • Grated coconut - 3 tbsp
  • Fennel seeds -1 tsp
  • Garlic pods -1

How to make Kumbakonam Kadappa

  1. *Pressure cook the moongdal and potatoes seperately.Then peel the potatoes mash it well and also mash the moongdal too.Grind the ingredients given under"To Grind" to a smooth paste.
  2. *Heat oil in a vessel temper the ingredients given under"To Temper".Add the sliced onion and slit green chillies in a medium flame until the onion turns transculent, be carefull not to change the colour.
  3. *Add 1 cup water+mashed moongdal and mashed potato along with salt.bring to boil.Finally add the ground paste.Mix well and keep stirring continuosly .cook for another 2-3 mins.
  4. *Once the raw smell goes away,switch off the flame.Add the lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves.
  5. *Serve hot with Idli / Dosa.

My Tip:

*Kadappa is usually white in colour,if you want add a pinch of turmeric powder for colour.
