Ingredients to make Southekayi Hasi Majjige Huli - Karnataka Style Cucumber Raita

  • Finely Chopped Cucumber - 1.5 Cups
  • Yogurt - 1 cup
  • Grated Coconut - ⅓ Cup
  • Fried Gram - 2 tbsp
  • Green chillies - 6
  • Fresh Coriander - A Handful
  • Roasted Methi Seeds - ¼ tsp
  • Mustard Seeds - ½ tsp
  • Red Chillies - 2
  • Curry Leaves - 8 to 10
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Hing or Asafoetida - A Large Pinch
  • Turmeric - A Large Pinch
  • Salt to taste

How to make Southekayi Hasi Majjige Huli - Karnataka Style Cucumber Raita

  1. Using a little water, grind coconut, fried gram, green chillies, fresh coriander, and roasted methi to a smooth paste.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Beat the yogurt till smooth.
  4. Add the cucumber, ground coconut mix, and salt to the yogurt.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Mix well.
  7. Mix well.
  8. In a ladle, heat the oil.
  9. Add mustard seeds and wait till they splutter.
  10. Add split red chillies to the oil.
  11. Add the curry leaves, hing, and turmeric to the oil.
  12. Add the tempering to the cucumber yogurt mix.

My Tip:

Enjoy Southekayi Hasi Majjige as a side dish for anything from dosa to idli. However, the classic pairing is with Nucchina Unde.
