Fish curry with coconut gravy

Kerala Fish Curry

Ingredients to make Kerala Fish Curry

  • Fish 500 gram
  • mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • shallots (small onion) 8-10
  • fenugreek seeds 1/4 tsp
  • red chilli powder 2tsp
  • kashmiri red chilli powder 1 1/2 tsp
  • coriander powder 4 tsp
  • turmeric powder1 tsp
  • ginger garlic paste 3 tsp
  • kudumpalli / kokam 2-3 (soaked )
  • curry leaves 8-10
  • scraped coconut 1/2 cup
  • water as required
  • coconut oil
  • salt

How to make Kerala Fish Curry

  1. clean fish and keep aside
  2. heat oil in a kadhai ( prefrebly made with clay) add mustard seeds
  3. add curry leaves , sliced onions and methi seeds (fenugreek)
  4. when onions are pink , add ginger garlic paste and saute
  5. Mix red chilli, kashmiri chilli, turmeric and coriander powder together with little water and make it into a paste . Add it to the pan and cook for 4-5 min.
  6. add kodumpalli and water n let it cook for sometime.
  7. once boiled add fish pieces and simmer
  8. meanwhile make coconut paste with very little water
  9. add it to pan , mix and close the lid
  10. cook for roughly 15 min till fish is done and gravy is thicker.
  11. finish with some coconut oil and some fried onions and serve with steam rice
