Sannapolo is a spicy dosa, often served as an accompaniment with a dal-rice meal.

Ingredients to make Onion & Cabbage Sannapolo/ Onion & Cabbage Spicy Dosas

  • 125 gms tuvar dal
  • 125 gms raw rice
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
  • 2 medium sized onions, chopped finely
  • 1/2 cup shredded cabbage
  • 5 kashmiri chillies
  • 10 spicy red chillies
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • salt to taste
  • oil to roast

How to make Onion & Cabbage Sannapolo/ Onion & Cabbage Spicy Dosas

  1. Wash and soak the tuvar dal & rice together for 4 hours.
  2. Roast the chillies in a little oil.
  3. Grind the coconut, roasted chillies and the tamarind to a smooth paste. Then add the soaked rice, tuvar dal, grind to a coarse rava like consistency.
  4. Fine chop the onions & shred the cabbage. Add them to the batter along with the salt. The batter should be of a bhakri/ thalipeet/ pancake consistency.
  5. Take a ball of the batter, place it on the tawa, use your finger tips to spread it. Dip your fingers tips in water to ease spreading.
  6. Heat the girdle & drizzle oil. Roast well on a low flame till nice & crisp.
  7. Flip over & brown the other side as well.
  8. Take off from flame, serve hot.
