ABOUT Kerala Nadan Fish Curry RECIPE

The coastal areas of Kerala specialise in making this dish and is a red hot spicy curry which is made and consumed regularly by the people there. A rustic dish which has now found place in almost all restaurants serving authentic Kerala food. I learned this from an old keralite Grandma who probebly saw my liking for cooking and taught me this one. Presenting the Nadan Fish Curry.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Shallots -25
  2. Curry leaves 8-10
  3. Tamarind water- ½ cup
  4. Coconut milk (first extract) – 1 cup
  5. Coriander powder – 3 Tbsp
  6. Chili powder - 1 Tbsp
  7. Chili paste -1 Tbsp
  8. Small onion- 1 finely chopped
  9. salt as per taste
  10. Oil as per need
  11. Water 2 cups
  12. Fish as per choice

Instructions

  1. Heat oil.
  2. Add shallots.
  3. Add curry leaves and stir for 2 mins.
  4. Add the chili powder, coriander powder and Tamarind water.
  5. Stir till it becomes almost dry.
  6. Add 2 cups water and fish pieces. Lower flame, Cover and cook for 5 mins
  7. Remove lid and cook for another 5 mins.
  8. Add salt as per need. Stir once.
  9. Add coconut milk and stir gently.
  10. Cook on low flame for another 5 mins.
  11. Give a tadka of finely chopped onion fried to brown and a few curry leaves.
  12. Serve hot with Steamed Rice.
