One of the most popular and beloved dishes in our country, chowmein is a delightful dish that never dissapoints your taste buds.

Chowmein

Ingredients to make Chowmein

  • 180 grams of egg noodles
  • 100 grams of chicken/beef/pork (Optional)
  • 4 garlic cloves finely shredded
  • 1/2 inch piece ginger finely shredded
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 1 medium sized carrot
  • 1 cup of cabbage
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon dark soya sauce
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grounded pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 tablespoon refined or olive oil
  • salt to taste

How to make Chowmein

  1. Take a large pan, add 7-8 cups of water and bring to a boil. Put the egg noodles in and cook for 5 minutes or so.
  2. Once cooked, drain the noodles. Add 1 tablespoon of oil into the noodles and toss properly, this will avoid the noodles from sticking to each other.
  3. On a high flame, heat a wok/kadai and add 1 tablespoon of oil. Put in the meat (sliced beef has been used for this recipe) and stir fry for 4-5 minutes or so.
  4. Shift the meat onto a bowl or a plate and keep aside.
  5. Next put in the finely sliced vegetables, carrot, pepper, cabbage, onion and fry for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Finally add in the meat, egg noodles, soya sauce, pepper, sugar, salt and blend all the ingredients together.
  7. Fry this chowmein for another 2-3 minutes before switching off the heat.
  8. Serve piping hot with ketchup on the side.
