A Maharashtrian Dal recipe served during vrats / fasting. No onion no garlic version with no compromise in the taste .

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Toor Dal 2 cups
  2. Water to cook dal 4.5 cups
  3. Salt 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Ghee 2 tablespoons
  5. Tomato 1 big ripe finely chopped
  6. Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  7. Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon
  9. Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  10. Hing 1/4 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Cook 2 cups toor Dal with 1/2 teaspoon salt .
  2. In a pan , heat 2 tablespoons ghee . Crackle each teaspoon mustard seeds , cumin seeds . Add hing.
  3. 1 teaspoon red chilli powder , 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder . Fry. Sauté chopped tomato till mushy.
  4. Add the tomato tadka contents to the dal . Mix , mash and slow cook for 5 minutes .
  5. Tikhat Dal is ready . Switch off .
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice / roti .
