About Sweet Pongal Recipe

This dish is very close to my heart. The first time I had it in Chennai in Sarvana bhavan.. This recipe has been taken from the website of Indian healthy recipes.

Sweet Pongal

Ingredients to make Sweet Pongal

  • 1/2 cup rice
  • 4 tbsp moong dal
  • 4-5 tbsp sugar. You can also adjust as per taste
  • 1 tsp elaichi Powder
  • Pinch of edible camphor. I did not had it so skipped adding this one
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • 7-8 cashew
  • 10-12 raisins

How to make Sweet Pongal

  1. Dry roast rice and moong daal separately till aroma comes.
  2. Wash rice and dal and boil it in open vessel or cooker
  3. In the meantime fry cashew and raisins in ghee and keep out separately.
  4. Once rice and dal is cooked mash it a bit.
  5. In an open vessel add this rice and dal mix, add elaichi powder and sugar.
  6. Let the sugar melt. Keep stirring on low flame till sugar melts and the mix looks shiny
  7. I added half of cashew and raisins while mixing sugar and kept half aside for garnishing.
  8. If you are adding camphor add it now and cover the vessel for 2 min. I have skipped this step as did not had camphor with me.
  9. Serve hot after adding ghee generously on it and garnish with fried cashew
