My childhood favourite and this bread sweet is just like my mum makes it. Another jewel from rich Hyderabad cuisine, it is an integral part of hyderabad wedding banquet. This recipe can be made the traditional way as well as in airfryer without compromising on the taste. Please refer to notes for more details on airfrying.

Ingredients to make Double ka meetha

  • Bread ( preferably milk bread) - 400 gms
  • Milk - 750 mls
  • Sugar - 250 gms
  • water - 100 ml
  • Cardamom powder - 1/4 tspn
  • Ghee (for airfryer method) - 3 tbsp + 1 tbsp
  • Ghee (for traditional method) - 350 gms + 1 tbsp
  • Cashews - 12-15 nos
  • Raisins - 1 tbsp

How to make Double ka meetha

  1. For traditional method:
  2. Dry the bread in hot sun or a warm oven for 1 hr or till it is slightly hard and dry to touch.
  3. Boil the milk in a wide bowl and keep aside.
  4. Cut each bread slice into four pieces and keep ready for frying.
  5. Heat 350 gms of ghee in a karahi. When hot deep fry bread. depending on the karahi size you can add 5 - 10 pieces at a time. Fry till golden brown. Might take 20-30 secs, for each batch.
  6. Once all the pieces are fried, add them to milk . Slowly fold the pieces into milk trying to keep them as intact as possible , you dont want a paste, just a chunky mixture of milk and bread.
  7. Boil water with sugar untill it dissolves and then add cardamom powder to the syrup.
  8. Now pour sugar syrup on milk and bread mixture and fold in carefully.
  9. Fry cashews and raisins in 1 tbsp ghee and fold into bread mixture.
  10. Double ka meetha can be served hot or at room temprature.
  11. For Airfryer method:
  12. Spread the ghee on all the bread slices (like you butter the bread) on one side.
  13. Cut each slice into four pieces And divide the slices to fry in four batches.
  14. Now fry each batch of bread pieces in airfryer at 175 c for 8 mins or golden brown and keep them aside.
  15. Now follow steps 6 to 11 .
My Tip: When airfrying keep an eye on the bread as it may soon go from golden brown to char black . Keep on shaking the airfryer basket from time to time for even browning. You can add more ghee, if you prefer to, I gave the bare minimum quantity for airfrying.
