ABOUT Mutton Thikkadi RECIPE

Mutton Thikkadi is a very famous and authentic recipe of Tamil Muslims which is popularly prepared during Eid especially Bakrid (Eid ul Adha). This recipe tastes yumm and generally made with mutton or mutton legs.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Idli Rice : 1 cup
  2. Mutton : 1/4 kg
  3. Oil : 3 tbsp
  4. Cinnamon : 2 sticks, Cloves : 2, Bay leaf : 1, Cardamom : 2
  5. Fennel seeds: 1/2 tsp
  6. Cumin seeds:1/2 tsp
  7. fenugreek : 1/2 tsp
  8. Ginger garlic paste : 2 tbsp
  9. Shallots : 5-7 finely chopped
  10. Tomato : 1 chopped
  11. Green chilies : 2
  12. Chilli powder: 1 tsp
  13. Garam masala: 1/2 tsp
  14. Salt: as per the taste

Instructions

  1. Soak Idli rice for an hour. Grind it into dosa batter consistency y adding sufficient water.
  2. In a wok, add the prepared batter and stir continuously until it becomes smooth dough. cool down the dough
  3. Apply oil in the palm and pinch a gooseberry(amla) sized dough. Slightly roll it and press it with your index and middle fingers to get the shape. Do this with all the dough.
  4. Meanwhile, pressure cook the mutton by adding sufficient water and salt until it is 3/4 th done. No need to cook thoroughly.
  5. In a pan, pour some oil and add the spices ( cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, bay leaf), fennel, cumin, fenugreek and saute.
  6. Then add in the slit green chillies, finely chopped shallots. once the shallots are cooked add in the ginger garlic paste , saute and add the chopped tomatoes
  7. Now add the cooked mutton along with the stock and stir well. Also add the chili powder, garam masala and extra salt (only if you want). bring it to boil
  8. To this gravy, add half of the prepared dumplings. close it with a lid and cook for about 7-9 minutes. Do not stir the gravy after adding the dumplings as they will break.
  9. After 8 minutes slightly stir the gravy once and add remaining dumplings and cook for 8 minutes by closing the lid.
  10. finally remove from the stove once the gravy thickens and serve hot.
