ABOUT chickpeas kadhi RECIPE

Another variation of the kadhi with chickpeas , and believe me the tangy spicy curry turned out awesome on a rainy day.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup boiled chickpeas
  2. 3/4 cup curd
  3. water, as required
  4. 2 tsp oil
  5. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  6. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  7. 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds/ methidana
  8. pinch asafoetida
  9. 10-12 curry leaves
  10. 2-3 dry red chillies
  11. 1 onion
  12. 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  13. 1 tbsp gram flour
  14. 1/4 cup sliced green capsicum
  15. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  16. 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  17. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  18. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  19. coriander leaves, for garnish
  20. for tempering
  21. 1 tsp oil
  22. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  23. 5-6 curry leaves
  24. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder

Instructions

  1. In a Kadai or deep pan heat oil.
  2. Add mustard and cumin seeds.
  3. After they splutter, add fenugreek seeds and asafoetida.
  4. Then add curry leaves and dry red chillies.
  5. Now add finely sliced onion and sauté it till light brown.
  6. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté till the raw smell goes off.
  7. Add gram flour and sauté on low flame till it gets light brown and fragrant.
  8. Add all the dry spices turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder and mix well.
  9. Add beaten curd and whisk well.
  10. Cook it for few minutes covered till it leaves oil.
  11. Add the boiled chickpeas, sliced capsicum and salt and mix well.
  12. Add water as per the gravy you want, I added nearly 3/4 cup as it gets thick on cooling.
  13. Let it simmer covered on low flame for 2-3 mins
  14. Add garam masala powder and switch off the flame.
  15. Heat oil in a tempering pan and add mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chilli powder .
  16. Add this tempering to the final curry and garnish with coriander leaves.
  17. Serve hot with roti or rice of your choice.
