ABOUT Deccani Nawabi Sewaiyon Ka Meetha.. RECIPE

A dessert that is related to it's origin and is quintessentially Hyderabadi Deccan. As every single hydis house, my maternal home also made this often on almost every small occasion. The only difference being that condensed milk and fresh cream were used along with milk. This is how it is made in our family. Crisp and aromatic vermicelli with loaded nuts is what it is all about in short and this version is not drenched fully in milk and hence is more crisp and firm. The texture of the vermicelli is crunchy and will surely leave you spellbound with it's awesome flavour. As per our home tradition, it is the most sought after and loved desserts of all and ranks high among others. This is my tribute to my everloving city- Hyderabad Deccan.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Vermicelli 100 gm
  2. Milk 3/4 cup
  3. Ghee 4 tbsp
  4. Nutmeg powder 2 pinches
  5. Cardamom pods crushed 3
  6. Condensed milk 1/4 cup
  7. Fresh cream 2 tbsp
  8. Almond slivered 3 tbsp
  9. Pistachios slivered 2 tbsp
  10. Cashewnut halves 10-12

Instructions

  1. ADD 4 TABLESPOONS OF GHEE TO A PAN.
  2. ADD 2 TO 3 CRUSHED CARDAMOMS ALONG WITH 100 GRAMS OF VERMICELLI.
  3. NOW ADD 2 PINCHES OF NUTMEG.
  4. AFTER SAUTEEING THE VERMICELLI FOR ALMOST 5 MINUTES, ADD 1/4 TH CUP OF SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK.
  5. FOLLOWED BY 3/4 CUP OF MILK.
  6. AND 2 TABLESPOONS OF FRESH CREAM.
  7. MIX WELL AND
  8. CLOSE THE LID. THE HEAT SHOULD BE LOW THROUGHOUT. DO NOT COOK THIS ON A HIGH HEAT.
  9. AFTER 5-8 MINUTES, IT IS ALMOST DONE WITH ALL THE MILK SOAKED UP. GARNISH WITH SLIVERED DRY FRUITS.
  10. SERVE THIS HOT OR COLD AS DESIRED.
