About Mushroom Taaba with Muri Batya (Mild Mushroom Stew with Coarsely Ground Fiery Red Chilli Paste) Recipe

Traditional Chakma food at its best! Taba or stew is a Chakma classic and a favourite!

Mushroom Taaba with Muri Batya (Mild Mushroom Stew with Coarsely Ground Fiery Red Chilli Paste)

Ingredients to make Mushroom Taaba with Muri Batya (Mild Mushroom Stew with Coarsely Ground Fiery Red Chilli Paste)

  • 1 cup chopped mushrooms
  • 4-5 chopped garlic cloves
  • 3 slit green chillies
  • 1 pinch of cumin powder
  • 1 cup of dried Red chillies
  • 1 large onion
  • 1/2 cup of roasted and chopped dried Fish
  • 1 tbsp mustard oil
  • salt to taste

How to make Mushroom Taaba with Muri Batya (Mild Mushroom Stew with Coarsely Ground Fiery Red Chilli Paste)

  1. To prepare mushroom taaba, bring 4 cups of water to boil and add garlic and slit green chilies. Simmer this for a minute.
  2. Now add mushrooms and cook covered on low flame. Season with salt and add tbsp. cumin powder. Cook till water reduces to little.
  3. To prepare muri batya, saute dried chilies in mustard oil until glazed and crispy. Drain and set aside.
  4. Over the stove top on medium flame roast dry fish until crisp and slightly charred with the help of tongs. Cut into small pieces and set aside.
  5. Add onions when the chilies are mostly ground. Season with salt and ground roughly.
  6. Serve this muri batya with mushroom taaba along with steamed rice.

My Tip:

You can make the Muri Batya ( Coarsely Ground Chilli Paste) in a big batch and store in an airtight container in the fridge and can use it for up to a week. You can also make the muri batya without the dry fish but then it tastes MUCH better with the fish!
