Ingredients to make Ghiya bharta

  • Ghiya(bottlegourd)-1 small size
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 inch of ginger finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 2 Green chillies finely chopped
  • Cumin seeds 1 tbspn
  • Turmeric pd 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander pd 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chilli pd-1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala-1/2 teaspoon
  • Kasuri methi- 1 tbspn
  • Salt
  • Ghee 2 tbspn
  • 1 cup of water

How to make Ghiya bharta

  1. Peel and grate(kaddukash) ghiya.
  2. Take a pan, add ghee..heat it and then add the cumin seeds.
  3. As the seeds crackle add ginger. cook for 1 minute and then add onion and saute till it becomes light pink.
  4. Then add all the spices with salt, cook for 1 minute and then add tomato and green chillies.
  5. Cook till the tomato becomes little mushy and then add the grated ghiya and mix well.
  6. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
  7. After 5 min open and add the kasuri methi by rubbing between the palms, add little water, mix. cover and cook for another 20 min.
  8. Open and serve with roti or paranthas.
