ABOUT Baked Masala Vada RECIPE

I'm sharing a healthier baked version of this masala vada with out loosing the goodness of deep-fried version.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1/4 cup Channa dal
  2. 1/4 cup Toor dal
  3. 2 tsp Jeera
  4. 2 Green chilies
  5. 2 tsp grated Ginger
  6. 1/2 cup chopped Onions
  7. few Curry leaves
  8. 1 tbs Oil
  9. 1 tsp chili powder
  10. 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  11. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash and soak chana dal and toor dal for at least ½ hour or up to 3 hours. Line parchment paper on baking sheet and preheat your oven at 180C.
  2. Drain water from dals and blend coarsely with jeera, green chilies, ginger, curry leaves and onions.
  3. Take in to bowl and mix in salt, chili and baking powder. Form a thick batter.
  4. Pinch small ball size batter and lightly flat on baking sheet to form a nice round (as shown in picture). Repeat and complete the batter.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes and remove from oven. Brush little oil on each side of vada and bake for another 15 minutes or less at 200C.
  6. When the brown crust starts to appear on top flip and check other side has turned light brown or not.
  7. Remove and leave to cool on kitchen counter. Serve warm with chutney/ketchup.
