Focaccia (Italian Bread)

Ingredients to make Focaccia (Italian Bread)

  • flour - 1 &1\2 cup
  • yeast - 3\4 tbsp
  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • olive oil - 4 tbsp + as needed
  • Warm water - 1\2 cup
  • For toppings:
  • Mixed italian herbs 1 tbsp
  • onion sliced 2
  • chopped coriander/cilantro as needed

How to make Focaccia (Italian Bread)

  1. In a mixing bowl add in flour, salt, sugar, yeast, 2 tbsp oil and mix well. Then slowly add warm water and make a slightly sticky dough.
  2. Cover the bowl and allow it to rise well.
  3. After 1-1.5 hours it would have doubled, punch it down. Add flour and slightly knead and roll it down. Place it in a baking tray, make impressions over it with fingers.
  4. Generously drizzle olive oil over it and top it with the toppings. Cover with cling film and allow to rise again
  5. After it has risen, bake it in pre-heated oven for 20 minutes at 180 degree C or till it browns a bit on the top.
  6. Cool, slice and serve

My Tip:

If using active dry yeast, first proof it and then use.
