  • 1/2 tsp soda bi carb
  • 100 gms ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup arhar / toor dal
  • 1 large onion
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 5-6 cloves garlic
  • 1 large tomato
  • 1" ginger
  • 1 tsp jeera
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • a pinch of Hing
  • 1 tsp haldi
  • 1 tsp red chilly powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • Chopped dhania

How to make Dal Bati Churma

  1. Knead flour, soda bicarb, 2tbsp ghee and salt to taste into a soft dough and keep aside for 10-15 mins. Make balls and keep in a medium hot tandoor to bake. Cooked bati will have cracks which are nothing but the creases that have opened up.
  2. Heat oil add the hing, jeera and mustard seeds. Once they splutter add chopped onions, ginger, garlic and green chillies. Cook till the onions turn golden around the edges. Add the dry masala like haldi, corriender powder, red chilly powder and salt followed by chopped tomatos. Cook for 2 mins and add cooked dal. Let it boil for 5 mins and add chopped green dhania.
  3. For Churma, Break 1 bati and grind in a mixer to form a fine powder. Add 2-3 tbsp melted hot ghee and granulated sugar. Mix well and serve with dry fruits.
