Dates N Cocunut Halwa, Kerala Style

Ingredients to make Dates N Cocunut Halwa, Kerala Style

  • dates, seedless 2 cups
  • Warm Water, to soak the dates
  • coconut Milk, thick 2 cups
  • coconut Jaggery 1/2-3/4 cup
  • ghee 2 Tbsp
  • cardamom powder 1 tsp
  • ginger powder 1/2 tsp
  • almond slivers 2tbsp + 1tsp

How to make Dates N Cocunut Halwa, Kerala Style

  1. Wash and soak the dates in warm water for an hour. Blend to a paste, adding 1 cup coconut milk.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a heavy bottomed pan, add the dates mixture and fry for 15 mins. Add the jaggery, remaining 1 cup coconut milk, cardamom powder and ginger powder.
  3. Cook for 15 more minutes, you can add some more plain or coconut milk if it's turning dry.
  4. Lastly add 1 tbsp ghee and the nuts and cook for 2-3 mins. Serve, garnished with almonds.

My Tip:

You can use plain jaggery or palm jaggery if coconut jaggery is unavailable
