Ingredients to make Parker House Rolls

  • Whole milk – 1 1/2 cup warmed
  • Active dry yeast – 1 packet ( 2 1/4 tsp)
  • Unsalted Butter – 1 stick (8 tbsp) melted + little more for brushing
  • Sugar – 1/4 cup + 1 tsp
  • Egg – 1
  • Salt – 1 1/2 tsp
  • All purpose flour – 4 cups

How to make Parker House Rolls

  1. In bowl, add warm milk, 1 tsp of sugar and mix well. Sprinkle the yeast and let the yeast activate. This might take about 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, melt the butter and let it cool. Beat the egg in a small bowl and keep it aside.
  3. Once the yeast activates, add the melted butter, beaten egg, salt, sugar and mix. Add the all purpose flour and mix using a wooden spoon until the mixture comes together.
  4. Transfer this to working surface and knead it for about 5 minutes till you get a very soft dough / ball.
  5. Place the dough in lightly greased bowl. Cover it and let it rise in warm place for about 1 hour or until it is doubled in size.
  6. Lightly coat your baking pan with butter. Transfer the risen dough to working surface, cut them into 15 equal pieces and make small balls or into desired any shapes.
  7. Place these rolls in the baking pan 1/2 inch apart and cover it with warm towel. Let it rise for about 1 to 2 hours or until doubled in size (rolls start touching each other)
  8. Preheat the oven to 180 degree C. Lightly brush the rolls with the melted butter and bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
