ABOUT Paneer Momos with red chilli chutney RECIPE

Momo is a steamed/ fried dumpling with some form of filling. A traditional delicacy in Nepal and Tibet and among the Nepalese and Tibetan communities in Bhutan, laddakh, Sikkim, Assam, Darjeeling regions of India. Here I've made paneer stuffing in the momo with hot and spicy red chilli chutney. Do try it and enjoy the cool weather.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Filling:
  2. Cottage cheese/ paneer 250 grams
  3. Grated ginger 1 tsp
  4. Grated garlic 2 tsps
  5. Finely chopped green chillies 1 tsp
  6. Finely chopped coriander 1/4 cup
  7. Salt and pepper to Season
  8. For the outer shell :
  9. Maida / wheat flour 1 cup
  10. Oil 1 tsp
  11. Salt a pinch
  12. Water sufficient to knead
  13. For the hot and spicy chutney:
  14. Red chillies 8
  15. Water 1/2cup
  16. Tomatoe sauce 2 tsps
  17. Soya sauce 1 tsp
  18. Grated garlic 1 tsp
  19. Sugar 1 tsp
  20. Salt a pinch

Instructions

  1. Grate the paneer and add to a vessel. Add the remaining items for the filling. Mix and keep aside.
  2. Heat the half cup water and soak the red chillies. Leave for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Make a soft but stiff dough with flour. Cover and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  4. Pinch small balls of the dough. Roll into small thin puris. Add a tbsp of filling. Pinch the sides gathering towards the middle and keep on a plate. Make all such dumplings and keep ready.
  5. Grease a steamer plate. Place all the dumplings on it. Steam for around 15 minutes.
  6. In the meanwhile make the chutney. Grind the red chillies with the soaked water. Start tempering. Add a tsp of oil to a sauce pan.
  7. Add the grated garlic. Stir fry. Add the ground red chilli paste. Saute further. Add the Sauces and seasonings. Add few spoons of water if required. Let it simmer for few minutes.
  8. Serve the hot steamed momos with red hot chilli chutney.
