ABOUT Double ka Meetha RECIPE

A traditional Hyderabadi dessert from the state of Telangana. It is a rich dessert with ghee, dry fruits and khoya coming from the Nizam's kitchen.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Bread - 8 slices (preferably brown or atta bread)
  2. Condensed milk - 1/2 cup
  3. Milk - 1-2 cups
  4. Saffron - a few strands
  5. Almonds - 10-15
  6. Pistachio - 10-12
  7. Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
  8. Khoya - 4-5 tbsps
  9. Ghee - 5-6 tbsps
  10. Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Soak the almonds in hot water to blanch them and remove their skin later.
  2. Cut the bread slices into diagonal shaped pieces.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add the ghee. When it comes up to heat fry the bread pieces on a low-medium flame till crispy golden brown.
  4. While the bread is getting fried, warm up the milk and add saffron to a tbsp of it. Keep it aside.
  5. Mix condensed milk with the rest of the warm milk.
  6. Remove skin of the almonds and cut them in to slivers.
  7. Chop pistachios and keep aside.
  8. Grate khoya for garnish.
  9. Arrange the fried bread pieces in a serving dish.
  10. Pour the milk-condensed milk mixture so that all the bread soaks up the milk.
  11. Sprinkle khoya, cardamom powder and the dry fruits.
  12. Serve it warm or chilled depending on the time of the year.
