Dal Pakwan

Ingredients to make Dal Pakwan

  • 2 cups maida
  • 1 tsp jeera
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp thin semolina rawa
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Warm water as required
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup bengal gram dal soaked overnight
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 to 3 green chillies, chopped
  • 5 to 6 curry leaves
  • Coriander for garnish
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of turmeric

How to make Dal Pakwan

  1. In a bowl add maida, sooji, salt, oil, jeera and make a dough with the help of warm water. Wrap it up with a muslin cloth for 4 hours then roll it like roti shape and prick it with a fork. Deep fry it.
  2. In a cooker add oil, fry jeera, curry leaves and green chillies, chopped. When they begin crackle, add chopped onions and fry till light pink. Add salt, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, amchoor powder, mix well then add bengal gram dal, coriander, water and pressure cook it for 8 whistles.
  3. On a plate, add the pakwan and in a bowl, add dal, sprinkle red chilli powder, amchoor powder, green spicy chutney, tamarind chutney and give a tadka of hot oil on it. Add chopped onions and serve hot.

My Tip:

The pakwan should be crispy, should not be fried like pooris. This is eaten in breakfast.
