Classic American Mac & Cheese

Ingredients to make Classic American Mac & Cheese

  • 1 cup Elbow macroni
  • 1 cup full cream
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp plain flour
  • 6-7 garlic pods minced finely
  • 2 small bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Oregano
  • 1/4 cup Italian cheese mix (or mozzarella)
  • 1/4 cup provolone cheese
  • 1/4 cup cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup pepper jack cheese
  • Salt and black pepper powder to taste
  • Dash of grated nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic herbed Parmesan cheese for garnish

How to make Classic American Mac & Cheese

  1. Boil macroni as per packet directions.
  2. Heat nonstick skillet. Add butter and melt it. Add flour and keep stirring Till it forms a paste.
  3. Add garlic and stir fry for few seconds continuously. Add milk little at a time, while stirring constantly till all milk is used up.
  4. Add bay leaves, cream, oregano, and Worcestershire sauce as well as all the cheeses. Stir all the time till it starts simmering. Cook on low heat.
  5. Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Stir well and add the drained macroni in the sauce. Simmer for few minutes.
  6. If the sauce is thick, dilute it with little milk.
  7. Ladle it in individual bowls and garnish with Parmesan cheese.
