ABOUT Varu Payaru - Traditional Tamilnadu Snacks RECIPE

This recipe uses field beans or mochai kottai. Varumeans fried andpayarumeans lentils. In this recipe we fry the beans without oil in a pan and hence the name. Varupayaru is a traditional Tamilnadu snacks which is very healthy as this is a no oil recipe. The process of makig it takes a little time, but with patience we can do anything well.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Mochai Kottai (Field Beans) - 2 cups
  2. Chilli powder - as needed
  3. Salt - as needed

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the field beans in water for 12 hours.
  2. Drain them and remove the skin from the field beans by pressing between the thumb and index finger.
  3. Dry them in a cloth in the sun for half an hour.
  4. These dried ones will be softer than the fresh beans.
  5. Now take the beans little by little and fry in a pan in medium flame till it becomes brown without adding oil.
  6. In the same way you can fry everything. At last add salt and chilli powder and mix well.
  7. Store them in an airtight container when cooled.
  8. This can be kept for more than a month.
