ABOUT Kada Chakka 65 (Bread Fruit 65) RECIPE

The breadfruit is similar in appearance to theJack fruit. Some people don't know how to prepare this tasty vegetable. It is called “KADA CHAKKA” in Malayalam. Breadfruit is a rich source of dietary fibre and is rich in energy And minerals. We can prepare lot of dishes with this bread fruit. But I have tried something unique starter snack with this,Kada chakka 65 (Bread fruit 65) . Kids love this as a snack item.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Ingredients for Marination
  2. Bread fruit - 200 gms (chopped into square pieces)
  3. Rice flour- 3 tbsp
  4. Besan/gram flour - 1 tbsp
  5. Corn starch - 2 tbsp
  6. Green chili paste – 1 tsp
  7. Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  8. Garam masala powder – ½ tsp
  9. Aam choor powder - ¼ tsp
  10. Water – 4 tbsps
  11. Oil - for frying
  12. Salt - to taste
  13. Seasoning for Kada Chakka 65
  14. Chopped onions – ½ cup
  15. Red chilies – 3 nos
  16. Chopped ginger - ½ tsp
  17. Chopped garlic - ½ tsp
  18. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  19. Dry red chilies - 2 nos
  20. Mustard seeds - ½ tsp(optional)
  21. Salt - 2 pinches
  22. Oil - 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Method to prepare the marination
  2. Mix rice flour, besan/gram flour and corn starch in a mixing bowl.
  3. Mix green chilli paste, garlic paste, ginger paste, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and lime juice. also add salt as required.
  4. Add 4 tbsp water. whisk to a smooth paste.
  5. Add the bread fruit pieces.
  6. gently mix the bread fruit cubes with the batter. cover and allow to marinate for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  7. Method for preparing Bread Fruit 65
  8. Heat 5 tbsp oil in a pan. coat the bread fruit cubes with the batter and add them to the hot oil.
  9. Flip and fry the other side till the bread fruit cubes become crisp and golden.
  10. Drain the bread fruit and keep aside
  11. In the same pan, heat 2 tsp oil. add ½ tsp mustard seeds, chopped ginger, chopped garlic, dry red chilies and curry leaves.
  12. Add 3 tbsp chopped onions. stir and saute the onions till they turn translucent. Add salt.
  13. Stir well. Add the fried bread fruit cubes.
  14. Mix and toss the bread fruit cubes and garnish with onion slices.
  15. Serve Kada chakka 65 (Bread fruit 65) hot as as a starter or with some chapatis, naan or tandoori rotis.
