Ingredients to make Pesarattu

  • Yellow lentils, not whole but half with skin(chilkewali Pili moon dal)-1 glass(200gm)
  • rice -1/4 glass
  • salt - to taste
  • cumin seeds (Jeera) - 1 tsp
  • Red chillies - 1 to 2
  • green chillies - 3 to 4
  • ginger - half lemon(small) sized
  • Refined oil - to make Pesarattu(dosa)

How to make Pesarattu

  1. In a wide utensil, take lentils and rice, thoroughly wash and soak it for 1 hour in 2 glasses of water. Lentils with skin take a little longer to completely soak!
  2. Meanwhile keep the other ingredients like green chilies, ginger, red chillies etc ready.
  3. In a mixie jar add this soaked lentils and rice , without transfering the water into the jar.
  4. Add other ingredients too one by one !
  5. Now add a glass of water and grind the mixture !
  6. Ensure to check the mixture for enough water so as to get slightly thicker consistency than the normal dosa batter !
  7. Transfer this mixture after its almost like dosa batter, into a utensil.
  8. Add 2-3 drops if oil on a non-stick tava, smear it well and pour the Pesarattu Batter on it with the help of a flat based ladle.
  9. Spread it like dosa.
  10. Pour oil evenly all around this Pesarattu.
  11. After a while, the edges of Pesarattu start to leave tava and turns brown , making it crispy!!
  12. Carefully transfer this Pesarattu in a plate !
  13. Yummy, hot and spicy Pesarattu is ready to be served !!
  14. Serve it with dosa chutney!!!

My Tip:

Keep chopped onions, green chillies, ginger and cumin seeds ready to sprinkle on the pesarattu after it is spread on the tava to get that 'extra' taste !!! Best savoured with upma !!
