ABOUT Muttaikose / Vettu Cake RECIPE

Muttaikose / vettu cake is famous tea kadai / chaya kadai (tea shop) snacks in tamil nadu and Kerala. It looks like cabbage hence the name.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 500 gms All purpose flour / Maida
  2. 300 gms sugar
  3. 100 gms vanaspathi ( melted )
  4. Pinch of salt
  5. 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
  6. 1/2 tsp baking soda
  7. Water 250 ml
  8. Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl put sugar melted vanaspathi , water and mix well till the sugar dissolves
  2. Now add cardamom powder ,salt , baking soda and flour and make smooth dough . no need to over knead
  3. Heat the oil in a deep pan
  4. Once the oil is hot pinch a gooseberry size of dough n drop it in the oil and cook it in the low flame .
  5. Flip it 2_3 times in between ,the cracks will form automatically
  6. Cook it till it turns nice golden colour . remove it in a tissue paper .
  7. Always fry it in low flame . it take some time to cook . it will be soft when its hot and chrunchy once it cools
