Ingredients to make Oats upma

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/2 tsp oil
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped Carrot
  • 1/4 cup boil green peas
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 5-6 cashew nuts
  • 1 cup water
  • Oil and salt as required

How to make Oats upma

  1. heat ½ tsp oil in a pan. add 1 cup oats. stir and saute on a low flame till the oats become crisp. keep stirring continuously so that the oats do not get browned from the bottom.remove oats in a plate and keep aside
  2. in the same pan, heat oil and crackle mustard seeds. then add 1 tsp chana dal, 1 tsp urad dal and cashews. stir and saute till the chana dal gets browned.
  3. Now add finely chopped onions. stir and saute till the onions turn translucent, then finely chopped, green chilies and curry leaves. stir and saute for half a minute.add carrot and green peas.
  4. Stir and saute for 2 minutes, then add 1 cup water. Cover the pan with its lid.on a medium flame cook this mixture till the veggies are almost done about 8 to 9 minutes.
  5. Then add the roasted oats. stir lightly.add salt as required. Stir very well.
  6. Then cover the pan again with its lid and on a low flame, steam the oats upma for 7 to 8 minutes. then add coriander leaves.
  7. Serve hot. You can drizzle some lemon juice over it.

My Tip:

Don't over roast the oats. colour should not be change.
