Ingredients to make Kara thattai / crispy savoury snacks

  • 3 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 cup roasted gram flour / chutney dal
  • 1/2 tsp _ 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/ 2 tsp crushed pepper
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp hot oil
  • 1 tbsp bengal gram / chana dal
  • 1/2 tbsp split & husked green gram / moong dal
  • Water
  • 2 sprigs Curry leaves crushed
  • Oil for frying

How to make Kara thattai / crispy savoury snacks

  1. Soak Bengal gram and split & husked green gram for 1 hour.
  2. In a wide bowl put rice flour, roasted gram flour, chilli powder , crushed pepper , curry leaves, asafoetida, salt ,melted butter ,hot oil and soaked lentils.
  3. Add water little by little and knead a soft and smooth dough and cover it with kitchen towel.
  4. Take a plastic sheet and grease it with oil.
  5. Apply some oil in your hand and take a lemon size dough and flatten it with your fingers.
  6. Put the made thattai in clean kitchen towel repeat it with the rest of the dough.
  7. Prick it with fork otherwise it will puff like puri while frying.
  8. Heat oil in deep frying pan and fry the thattai's in medium flame till the shhh sound stops .
