This is one of my family's heirloom recipe which my grandma used to make.As a child i was a very picky eater and always used to fuss when it comes to eating,and moreover i am not a big fan of bread sandwiches.But at times only bread will be available at home for tiffin,so my grandma used to make this bread uppuma especially for me.still i remember her grinding the masala for it in"ammi".So from that day till now its my family's most favourite recipe.Its easy to make and is very tasty.

Ingredients to make Green bread Upma

  • Sandwich bread -1 small pack
  • Onions -2 chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 1 tablespoons
  • GRIND TOGETHER-
  • Coriander leaves -1 small bunch
  • Grated Coconut -1/2 Cup
  • Onion-1 chopped
  • Ginger-1 inch piece
  • Green chillies -4 numbers
  • Cinnamon -1 piece
  • Cloves-2 pieces
  • Turmeric powder -1/2 teaspoons

How to make Green bread Upma

  1. First cut the bread into small pieces along with the edges.
  2. Dry roast the bread pieces for 2 minutes in a kadai and set aside.
  3. Grind all the ingredients given for grinding to a fine paste, set aside.
  4. Heat oil in a kadai add onions and saute for few minutes until it's cooked.
  5. Add the ground masala paste and cook for few minutes until the raw smell goes.
  6. Add required amount of salt to the mixture.(keep in mind that there is salt in the bread too)
  7. Finally add the bread pieces mix everything together well so that the masala covers all the bread pieces properly., for 2 minutes.
  8. Check for salt.
  9. Serve hot.

My Tip:

You can select any bread of your choice but if you use milk bread it tends to become a bit soggy. Be careful when adding salt since there is salt in the bread too. Make sure you cook the masala until the raw smell goes.
