Masoor ki chutney

Ingredients to make Masoor ki chutney

  • masoor dal - 1/2 cup
  • dry red chili - 6
  • tamarind - one small piece
  • garlic - 3
  • cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • coriander seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • dry red chili - 1
  • curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • asafoetida powder / hing - a pinch
  • oil - 2 tsp
  • salt - to taste

How to make Masoor ki chutney

  1. Wash masoor dal and drain it.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add washed and drained dal, and fry for about 1 -2 minutes or until they change color. Transfer the roasted dal to a plate.
  3. In the same pan, add dry red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and roast well. Transfer it to another plate.
  4. Add the roasted coriander, cumin seeds, garlic, tamarind, salt and dal into a blender. Grind it into a coarse paste by adding water. Keep it aside.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add curry leaves, dry red chili, and stir-fry for a minute.
  6. Add the tempering to the dal mixture and mix well.
  7. Serve masoor ki chutney with dosa or vada.
