ABOUT Masoor ki chutney RECIPE

Masoor ki chutney is a tasty side dish for dosa. It is a Hyderabadi special recipe. Masoor dal is also called as red lentils or Egyptian lentils. This chutney makes use of masoor dal as the main ingredient and hence the name masoor ki chutney or masoor dal ki chutney. This dish is prepared in most of the Andhra homes on a regular basis and is served along with dosa, dibba dosa, or with pesarattu.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. masoor dal - 1/2 cup
  2. dry red chili - 6
  3. tamarind - one small piece
  4. garlic - 3
  5. cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
  6. coriander seeds - 1/4 tsp
  7. dry red chili - 1
  8. curry leaves - 1 sprig
  9. mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  10. asafoetida powder / hing - a pinch
  11. oil - 2 tsp
  12. salt - to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash masoor dal and drain it.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add washed and drained dal, and fry for about 1 -2 minutes or until they change color. Transfer the roasted dal to a plate.
  3. In the same pan, add dry red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and roast well. Transfer it to another plate.
  4. Add the roasted coriander, cumin seeds, garlic, tamarind, salt and dal into a blender. Grind it into a coarse paste by adding water. Keep it aside.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add curry leaves, dry red chili, and stir-fry for a minute.
  6. Add the tempering to the dal mixture and mix well.
  7. Serve masoor ki chutney with dosa or vada.
