Senai Kizhangu Pachadi | Elephant Yam Raita

Ingredients to make Senai Kizhangu Pachadi | Elephant Yam Raita

  • Karuani Kilangu /Elephant Yam – 250 g
  • Green chili – ½ from long size chili
  • Ginger - 1 thin slice
  • Chopped Coriander leaves – 3 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Yogurt – 1 cup
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Hing – pinch
  • Musturd – 1.5 tsp
  • Urad Dhal – 1.5 tsp

How to make Senai Kizhangu Pachadi | Elephant Yam Raita

  1. Peel the skin of yam and chop them into medium size cubes.
  2. Add water to cover the yam and steam them in pressure cooker for 3 whistles.
  3. Add coriander leaves, chili, ginger and yam into a mixer. Strain the water before adding yam but do not throw the water. Grind the mix.
  4. Start to garnish separately. Take a small kadai, add oil, hing. Once hot, add mustard and let it splutter.
  5. Add urad dal to the garnished mix.
  6. Mix Yogurt, coriander-yam mixture , salt into a container. Add the remaining water which was used for steaming yam and give them a mix.
  7. Add the garnished items to the raita.

My Tip:

You may use this as a dip with nachos. You need not garnish in that case.
