ABOUT Kunafah RECIPE

Kunafah is a Palestinian cheese pastry soaked in sweet, sugar-based syrup, typical of the regions belonging to the former Ottoman Empire and adjoining areas of Egypt and Turkey.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 packet of Kunafa dough
  2. 2 tbsp of butter
  3. 1 tsp of red orange color
  4. 2 cups of mozzarella cheese
  5. 2 cups of fresh cream
  6. 3 - 4 cups of sugar syrup
  7. 2 tbsp of crushed pistachios

Instructions

  1. Take a packet of Othmaliye Dough (Kunafa pastry Dough). Separate nicely the threads from each other.
  2. Grease the baking tray with orange red colour and butter evenly. Spread half of the dough to the greased tray and press it nicely.
  3. Add a layer of mozzarella cheese evenly over it and then press it again. Add a layer of fresh cream at top of it and press it with the help of a spoon.
  4. Add the remaining dough of kunafa and press it. Bake it at 180 ° C in a preheated oven for approx 20 - 30 mins till the top layer turns golden brown.
  5. Remove from oven and turn it upside down on a serving plate then pour sugar syrup over it and cut it into squares and put some crushed pistachios. Serve hot with a scoop of ice cream.
