Baklava

Ingredients to make Baklava

  • 1 1/2 cup almond flakes chopped
  • 1 cup walnuts chopped
  • 1/3 cup fine sugar
  • 1/2 cup cashew nuts chopped
  • 2 cups castor sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 200 g unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • A pinch of clove powder
  • 15-20 puff pastry sheets
  • Pistachios for garnish

How to make Baklava

  1. Mix the almonds, walnuts, cashew nuts, Sugar, cinnamon, clove powder in a small bowl.
  2. Heat a saucepan. Add water and sugar and bring to boil. Simmer for 10-15 mins until the syrup is a little thick.
  3. In a baking dish, evenly brush the butter. Butter 10 sheets of pastry and lay them one after the other in the baking dish.
  4. Spread the filling on the sheets evenly.
  5. Cover the filling by another 10 buttered pastry sheets. Brush the top of pastry with butter after layering with last sheet.
  6. Mark the pastry sheets in square shapes or diamond shapes.
  7. Pre heat the oven to 160 degrees C and bake it for an hour, until the top of pastry turns brown.
  8. When its baked, take it out of the oven and slowly pour the syrup evenly on top.
  9. Let the pastry soak the syrup for 5-6 hours in refrigerator.
  10. Once its ready, serve it on plates. Garnish with pistachios and more syrup if desired.
