Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup beaten Rice
  2. 1 cup finely grated Coconut
  3. 3-4 tsp Ghee
  4. 4-5 tsp Sugar
  5. a pinch of food grade Camphor
  6. 1 1/2 cup Toor/Channa dal
  7. 1/2 cup Pumpkin cubes
  8. 1/2 cup Potatoes
  9. 1 Drumstick (cut into 2 inch pieces)
  10. 1/2 cup freshly grated Coconut
  11. 3-4 dry red Chilis
  12. 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  13. 1 Bay leaf
  14. a pinch of Asafoetida
  15. 2 tsp Ghee
  16. 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  17. Salt to taste
  18. 1/3 tsp roasted Cumin chili powder

Instructions

  1. Coarsely grind beaten rice and take out onto a plate. Rub coarse ground beaten rice with sugar and ghee to form coarse granules. (This is slightly difficult and time consuming step). Mix till ghee and sugar are evenly combined.
  2. Add grated coconut and powdered camphor to it and mix by adding little water if you feel the mixture looks dry. Our chuda ghasa is ready.
  3. Wash and soak chana dal for 5-6 hours. Pressure cook chana dal with pumpkin and potato pieces by adding 2-3 cups water for 2 whistles.
  4. Turn off the flame and the steam settle down. Now add drumsticks and pressure cook for 1 whistle.
  5. To temper, take a wok and heat ghee. To this add red chilies, cumin seeds, bay leaf and asafoetida.
  6. Pour this tempering over the dal and garnish with roasted cumin-chili powder and fresh grated coconut. Our dalma is ready now.
  7. Take spoon full of chuda gasa onto a plate and pour a ladle full of dalma over it. Combine and relish.
