ABOUT Puliyodarai RECIPE

Puliyodarai an authentic Tamil Iyengar rice item, my grandmother, my mother cooked this & now it has come to me ...I will pass on to my daughters.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Tamarind- 1/4 kg
  2. Red chillies- a few
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Hing- a pinch
  5. Sesame seeds- 1/2 tsp
  6. Coriander seeds- 1 tsp
  7. Peanuts- 2 tbsp
  8. Channa- 1 tsp
  9. Urad dal- 1tsp
  10. Curry leaves
  11. Rice- 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Cook 1 cup rice, with 1 1/2 cup water , let it cool, separate each grain
  2. Soak 1/4 kg tamarind in water, squeeze out the pulp
  3. In a kadai add 1 tspoon til oil, add mustard1/2 t.spoon, urad dal, channa dal 1 t.spoon, 1 table spoon peanuts, pinch of hing, 10 to 12 red chillies , broke in to half, pinch of turmeric, add the tamarind pulp , & salt to your taste.
  4. 1 table spoon black til, 1t.s , methi seeds , dry roast them, then roast 1 cup coriander seeds, 1 cup of red chillies in oil, grind to powder., in the rice mix the tamarind pulp, & then this powder(2tbsp), & give tadka of peanuts and red chilli.

hi..your recipe sounds nice..i am not sure about the ingredient quantities..could you please update it?
