Typical Arhar dal and Chawal

Ingredients to make Typical Arhar dal and Chawal

  • For tuvar/arhar daal
  • 1 cup tuvar daal
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tsp desi ghee/oil
  • Garam masala as per choice
  • Amchoor powder as per taste
  • coriander leaves half a bunch
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 green chilli
  • For jeera Rice:
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1 tsp salt

How to make Typical Arhar dal and Chawal

  1. Put daal and 4 cup water in a pressure cooker.
  2. Add salt and turmeric powder.
  3. Wait for 3 whistles.
  4. Take a wok. Add ghee, as it gets warm add in cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  5. Add chopped onions and green chilli. As its color changes, add in the chopped tomatoes.
  6. Cook for a minute. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and saute for a few minutes. Finally add some amchoor powder.
  7. Add this tadka into the dal and mix it. Sprinkle garam masala and coriander leaves.
  8. For the Jeera rice:
  9. Wash the rice and soak in water for 10 - 15 minutes.
  10. In a pressure cooker add ghee and cumin seeds (Jeera). Add rice and the double water.
  11. And pressure cook it for 2 whistles.
  12. Serve hot dal chawal with salad, chutney, pickle and raita.

My Tip:

If you soak dal and chawal it will cook quickly.
