Rawas (Indian Salmon) Masala

Ingredients to make Rawas (Indian Salmon) Masala

  • 1 Rawas Fish Medium size
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 cup fresh grated coconut
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 5-6 Black pepper corn
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 4-5 tamarind Petals
  • 2 medium sized onions finely chopped
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 green chillies
  • oil as required
  • salt to taste

How to make Rawas (Indian Salmon) Masala

  1. Clean and cut the fish into one inch pieces and wash them. Apply 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp turmeric powder and keep aside for 20 minutes.
  2. Take fresh grated coconut, add turmeric, chilli, coriander powder, peppercorns, tamarind petal and 1 tsp of finely chopped onion and 1 tsp ginger garlic paste.
  3. Grind the above masala into coarse paste.
  4. Heat pan with 2 tbsp of oil, add chopped onion and saute till slightly browned.
  5. Add Ginger Garlic Paste and saute for 1/2 a minute.
  6. Add the masala and saute for 5 minutes. Put green chillies and add 2 cups of water.
  7. Wash the fish pieces again and add in to the masala. Add salt to taste. Cook on a medium flame for 7 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with chappati or rice.
