Ingredients to make Vegetable Broken Wheat (Dalia) Bhaath

  • Broken wheat or Dalia- 200 gm
  • Chopped mixed boiled vegetables- 1 cup
  • Chopped spinach leaves- 2 tbsps
  • Chopped onion- 1
  • Chopped tomato- 1
  • Chopped green chillies- 2
  • Grated ginger- 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Sambar powder- 1 tsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves- 1 tbsp
  • Ghee- 1 tbsp
  • Juice of one lemon
  • Salt as needed
  • Oil for tempering

How to make Vegetable Broken Wheat (Dalia) Bhaath

  1. Soak the broken wheat (dalia) in water for 10 to 15 minutes.
  2. Cook the dalia in a pan or pressure cook until done.
  3. In a pan, heat some oil, add cumin seeds, when it crackles, add the onions, ginger, green chillies and saute.
  4. Next put in the boiled vegetables and saute for a few minutes.
  5. Now add the spinach and tomatoes and give it a good stir.
  6. Add turmeric, chilli powder, sambar powder, salt and very little water to bring all the spices together.
  7. Drain the dalia or remove from the pressure cooker.
  8. Stir and mix well and cook on low flame for a minute. Remove from stove and add lemon juice.
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves. Drizzle the ghee over the bhaath.
