Fish Pulusu

Ingredients to make Fish Pulusu

  • Fish - 1/2 kg
  • For the masala:
  • onions - 2 medium size
  • Red chillies - 10
  • cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
  • tamarind pulp - around 1 lemon size ball of tamarind
  • onion - 1
  • mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • curry leaves a few
  • coriander for garnish
  • salt as per taste
  • turmeric - 1/2 tsp

How to make Fish Pulusu

  1. Grind the masalas given above Tamarind to a smooth paste with some water. Keep aside.
  2. Take a kadhai and add 2 to 3 tbsps of oil.
  3. Add mustard seeds and as they splutter add one onion, sliced.
  4. Add the curry leaves and stir fry for a while.
  5. Add the fish followed by some turmeric.
  6. Toss everything then cover with a lid and let it cook on a medium high flame.
  7. After a few minutes, open the lid and add the ground masala paste followed by the tamarind juice.
  8. Add salt, half of the coriander, carefully mix and cover with the lid. Let it come to a boil on a medium heat, twice.
  9. Check if the fish is cooked or simmer for a minute or two. Serve hot with steamed rice.
