Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For Pitha:
  2. Rice flour - 1 1/2 cup
  3. Milk - 2 cups
  4. Water - 1/2 cup
  5. Salt as per taste
  6. Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
  7. Ghee - 2 tsp
  8. For the Chana Dal Stuffing:
  9. Chana dal - 3/4 cup
  10. Ginger - a little
  11. Green chillies - 2
  12. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  13. Jeera powder - 1/2 tsp
  14. Sabut Jeera - 1 tsp
  15. Oil for frying
  16. Salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. Soak chana dal for 4-5 hours .Drain all the water, grind with ginger and chillies without any water. Keep it little coarse.
  2. Now in a pan add 1.5 tbsp oil.Add jeera seeds, when it splutters, add the dal mixture. Cook in low flame. Add turmeric, jeera powder, salt and mix well. Cook till consistency becomes little crumbly. Turn off the flame and keep aside.
  3. Take a kadai, add milk and water. When it boils, add salt, cardamom powder and ghee. Now gradually add the rice flour while stirring continuously. When the mixture thickens, turn off flame and let it cool. When the mixture is just warm enough to be touched, knead it well to form a soft dough. You can add little ghee while kneading.
  4. Now pinch small balls from the dough, flatten and make a well in the centre of each ball, stuff with the chana dal filling, close from all sides. You can give any shape of your choice, I gave a gujia shape. Similarly make all the gujiyas and steam in the steamer on high flame for 20 minutes.
  5. Serve hot with coriander and coconut chutney.
