Kumaoni Bada

Ingredients to make Kumaoni Bada

  • Unskinned urad dal
  • water as required
  • dhania powder
  • Lal mirch powder
  • jeera powder
  • haldi powder
  • namak as required
  • oil for frying
  • hing a pinch

How to make Kumaoni Bada

  1. Soak urad dal for an hour with lukewarm water.
  2. Grind soaked urad dal on a sil-batta (made up of stone in hilly regions). You can use a mixer grinder here too.
  3. Now mix all the dry ingredients to the paste of urad daal and make a batter.
  4. Take the batter with the tip of your finger and try to make a round flat ball with a hole in the centre. Dip directly in Kadhai of hot oil for frying.
  5. Deep fry till it turns golden.
  6. Serve hot immediately.

My Tip:

By using sil-batta for bada you will get a earthy flavour.
